Refurbishments in progress
The experienced building team within Amazing Retreats are currently working on plans for the refurbishment of Spitbank Fort, so it is likely to be several months until this unusual venue is available to guests.
Unlike conventional buildings Spitbank provides some interesting tasks for the team - No.1 being logistics!
Currently the only way to gain access to the fort is via the small tug boat that has been modified to enable it to be hoisted out of the Solent to a level adjacent to a stepped landing. This is not ideal if you imagine the building products, equipment and tools that would arrive on your driveway during even the most simple household refurbishments. Arriving to the door via a Transit van is not likely to occur at Spitbank Fort!
The Solent is one of the busiest passages of water, with ferries and tankers producing wakes, opposing currents due to the vicinity of the Isle of Wight, plus changing weather conditions, all making the logistical planning one of the most exhaustive within the extensive schedule of building works outlined.
Given the history of Spitbank, it's unique proximity and our refurbishment plans, we intend to keep an on-line diary of developments from completion of sale to launch. As soon as we have stills, video or web cam images, this will be the place to view the on-line story of the exciting transformation and challenges to the team at Spitbank Fort.
