November Wild Goose Chase

November Wild Goose Chase open house party

Green wellies and Barbours, woolly hats and mufflers a’ plenty, all in the Wellie Room ready for you.  Our ladies make sure you are always warm whatever the vagaries of the weather. This is the occasion when the wilder the weather, the better the sport.  Up at six o’clock, coffee and bacon rolls in the Gun Hall, a briefing by Hamish and pegs drawn (Hamish decides, based on wind and bird patterns) then it’s off in the Land Rovers to Lochs Wester and Winless.

We sometimes have a little fun with the pigeons in the Doocot.  Many a pigeon has sailed merrily past seven guns to return in the evening and tell the tale. At twilight it’s off to Killimster or Wester to lie in wait for the returning geese.  A secret nip of sloe gin to keep the heart warm and the spirits up.  Happily all retreat to the Land Rovers with a brace or two of greylags and maybe a duck.

Dinner is in the Great Hall, kilts and Imperials. We always have a ceilidh with Highland lassies and pipes and fiddle. The men in their kilts and the ladies in their finery.  Stories to relate in the Smoking Room and a late frame of snooker into the wee small hours.  A truly wonderful time to relax and enjoy before settling down to winter. The masseuse and reflexologists are waiting for the ladies… so come and join the party.

Golf, shooting, walks on the beach, laughing and plenty of sloe gins. Lord Lambton lunches at The Bothie and chestnuts by the fireside. Out for the duck at dawn and the wild geese at evening twilight for the enthusiasts, and maybe the Northern Lights will perform for us.
