Food of love

Food of Love open house party

Congratulations to Brett Graham on the award of his second Michelin Star.

Each year we have a special 'Food of Love' open house weekend which is around Valentine's time and we invite a celebrity chef to join us for the weekend. Brett Graham, Chef of The Ledbury, Notting Hill, London, is joining us with a member of his brigade. The Ledbury recently won the Restauranteurs’ Restaurant of the Year award which is a coveted prize.

Nicholas Lander, in his recent review of Brett Graham’s restaurant for the FT, says;

"Here was a menu that challenged all the senses. I am thinking in particular of a starter of celeriac baked in ash, and the aromas from a main course of pigeon, which filled the room. Most exciting was the juxtaposition of inexpensive ingredients alongside more expensive ones to create delicious dishes no amateur chef has the confidence to produce, most notably a first course of grilled and cured mackerel with a small crêpe of finely diced cucumber.

My fillet of John Dory was considerably larger than the turbot I’d eaten at the Berkeley and was accompanied by pumpkin gnocchi and clementine purée, which provided an excellent foil."

Don’t miss out on your chance to meet the man and taste the food!

Brett started his career in Australia, where at the age of 15 he worked in a simple fish restaurant. He moved from Sydney when he won a highly acclaimed prize, which granted him a trip to visit London, and he has not returned. He won the Young Chef of the Year in 2002 from The Square, Mayfair, and was given the opportunity to open The Ledbury.

He leads a young energetic team, and we look forward to welcoming him to Ackergill. Brett will cook with our own chefs Kevin Dalgleish, Gary Leishman and the Ackergill team, as well as orchestrating a demonstration and joining in the weekend, which makes for a highly stimulating culinary experience with loads of fun and lots of good food and wine.

Guy Butterwick proprietor of the London wine house "claret-e" will place various wines with our menus and talk a little about them and why he chose them for the occasion.

This weekend is of course a classic for culinary delights but also a wonderful opportunity to walk up an appetite on our five miles of sandy beach. If the weather permits a few holes of golf or take a tour of the harbours of Caithness each with their own history and charm. Or, simply curl up in front of the fire with a good book, and just wait for the gong!
