Eating & drinking
At Ackergill Tower we are blessed with some of the finest and freshest produce sourced from the local estates, rivers and coastline that surround us. The sweetest lamb, the tenderest cuts of beef and fish direct from the bustling market of Scrabster. Vegetables & herbs, from local gardens, shell fish from our coastline, wild salmon from local fishermen and game from neighbouring estates – venison, duck and goose. And home baking aplenty to tempt even the most abstemious.
All things are possible, so the choice is yours as Kevin our Head Chef enjoys planning menus and will discuss with you, in advance of your visit, what is at its best during your stay.
A picnic overlooking the treacherous Pentland Firth, barbecue in Helen’s Courtyard or a night of ceremony and sparkling silver and crystal under the watchful gaze of the ancestors in the Great Hall, we guarantee to serve, effortlessly with a smile, the season’s finest and freshest ingredients from the counties bountiful estates and varied coastline.
Cut deep into the castle rock many surprises are to be discovered in our cellar. An ammunition store in the 1940’s for the troops garrisoned at Ackergill but now returned to its original glory! Martin carefully selects fine and interesting wines to keep the cellar stocked with a variety of tastes, from full bodied reds to refreshing whites, to accompany the seasonally changing menus. He looks forward to discussing wines with you and inviting you to discover the treasures that lie beneath.
